- IN OPTION - The Markgrave district was a true hotspot for artists and wealthy merchants in the 19th century, and that atmosphere is still palpable today—reflected in its grand mansions, green spaces, and monumental architecture. This neighbourhood offers the best of both worlds: just a stone’s throw from both the city centre and the ring road, and within walking distance of three parks.
Tucked away in a quiet one-way street, directly opposite the provincial house and its pedestrian zone, lies a spacious rear house with exceptional natural light and complete privacy—you can’t even see the street from inside. Features like this typically come with a multimillion-euro price tag in this area, but this property is the exception.
An architectural façade, open spaces, direct bicycle access, central location and proximity to greenery—rarely does a home tick all these boxes without a sky-high price. This rear house is truly a hidden gem amid the city bustle. The “wow” starts at the curb with the modernist façade—an interplay of curves and sharp lines—designed in 1936 by architect Urbain De Meyer. Through the central entrance, you walk through the building to reach your own private unit at the back. There you’ll find a duplex apartment, recently fully renovated with the needs of a young family in mind.
Inside, a long hallway leads to two bedrooms, a bathroom with both bath and shower, a storage room, and a guest toilet. The former residents had a real love for quality materials and weren’t shy about showing it. That’s why some brick walls were left exposed on the ground floor, as well as the vaulted ceilings. A door leads to a private outdoor area with a swing and a small garden shed. There’s even a socket for charging your e-bike—and you can cycle right up to the door, so no hauling cargo bikes, groceries, or bins through the central hallway.
Next to this path is a leafy servitude lane, closed to cars, which the previous owners often used to relax in the sunshine. With mutual respect among neighbours and careful use of the space, much was possible.
A staircase and small entry hall—ideal as a home office—lead to the spacious living room and open kitchen, which was recently custom-renovated. The living area, with its beautiful parquet flooring, truly is the heart of the home. And though you’re in the middle of the city, there’s no street in sight: a large skylight frames the view of surrounding trees and rooftops, giving you that everlasting holiday vibe.
A beautiful renovation that preserves character—that’s what we love at Immodôme.
