Description

Behind this unique heritage property, formerly known as the ‘Hemelrijk’, lies a wealth of history. Some records even date the building back to around the 14th century. The house has been extensively renovated over the centuries and was once demolished, but in its current form, the origins of this building certainly date back to the second half of the 18th century. For instance, a horse dealer lived here around 1860. Silent witnesses? The authentic stone feeding troughs in the garden.

Ground floor: majestic entrance hall with original black church floor and double doors with original stained-glass windows. Parquet and travertine floors, high ceilings, elegant details, open fireplace... This place exudes history! To the right: practice room with an extra desk and, opposite, the living area with a new country-style kitchen and access to the (bicycle) garage.

Lots of lovely nooks and a beautiful garden room – perfect for enjoying every season! On +1: four bedrooms, including the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and roof terrace, and three bedrooms sharing a shower room and dressing room.

The XL attic is now a living space with plenty of potential. The two somewhat hidden little rooms used to be where the maids slept. With a total living area of 450 m², the possibilities here are endless: a live-work combination, a B&B, a large family home...

As with many characterful heritage properties, this house requires further renovation and finishing touches in certain areas, which at the same time offers the opportunity to adapt it to your own taste whilst respecting its rich history.

owner speaks out

‘The large attic was insulated, but the original wooden beams were left exposed – and that’s pretty much the common thread running through the whole house. Where necessary, certain rooms were renovated, whilst at the same time we preserved as many original features as possible out of respect for the history of this fantastic property. It is truly special to be part of the history of such a valuable piece of Tienen’s architectural heritage.

The garden, too, is an unimaginable luxury, right in the heart of the city. We’ve spent hours enjoying the various nooks we’ve created. The terrace off the kitchen, the covered seating area or the maze of hedges with the wisteria against the back wall – in this lush garden, you’ll always find a spot to relax.’
