Description

Not for snobs, but for lovers of architecture and aesthetics.

A pure low-rise villa, located a stone's throw from Antwerp and with good accessibility towards Brussels.

The architect and occupant Jo Van Roey, and Coby Manders (STAM architects), created a powerful whole of neutral architecture with space for the interior, completed by Jo's husband Geert De Bruycker, dealer in design. Given the owners' profession, a clean canvas was chosen, giving every opportunity for infill.

Black aluminium windows, a handsome grey/brown brick, high ceilings, frequent vistas, no annoying radiators but underfloor heating and an ingenious volume creation.

The ground is in the midst of an SME zone. Despite the brooding life around the house, you enjoy peace and quiet on the site - sheep and geese on one side, a forest as a buffer zone on the other.

Thanks to the single-storey building, you have contact with the surroundings in every room. On the street side, in addition to the kitchen and dining room, are the children's bedrooms. These bedrooms were conceived as compact cabins. The annex to the living kitchen provides space for a play or office area.

Award-winning and publicised home.

owner speaks out

"In creating the home, we were adamant in avoiding the cliché or sterility of "contemporary" architecture and rather thinking eclectically to find a captivating balance between form and content.

A great example of this is the use of 18th century terracotta flooring. The old tiles give the house soul and pulls it out of banality.

The same goes for the terrace between kitchen and living room. The shape of the high brick frame surrounding the terrace almost gives the space an indoor feel.

The various views from one room to another also make the house interesting.
