Description

The Venushof is one of those places you need to know about, a hidden oasis reserved for those in the know. Located in the historic city centre, with its charming squares, monumental buildings and atmospheric streets, it is within walking distance of the best museums, theatres, boutiques and top restaurants. An inspiring setting, close to the Academy of Fine Arts – lively, stylish and peaceful at the same time.

Some buildings cannot be easily categorised. After all, so many things can happen where the members of the Hollandse Club now hold their meetings. An exclusive art gallery? A discreet antique shop? A stylish office, notary's office, unique meeting place or practice? An inspiring studio or showroom with sky-high wow factor? An exceptional “taste laboratory” for experimenting in a professional kitchen? An unrivalled setting for cultural gatherings or distinguished meetings? With the necessary adjustments, you could even make this characterful place your home. The property is listed as a protected monument, but there is no obligation to renovate.

This impressive city palace, the Venushof, was built around 1560. In the past, several mayors lived here, whose coats of arms can still be seen in the stained glass of the great hall.

The property in question is located on the ground floor, discreetly hidden behind the monumental façade with balcony and beautiful entrance hall. Most of the other owners are residents, so discretion is guaranteed. The property consists of several salons, a professional kitchen, a utility room, separate ladies' and gentlemen's toilets, various storage rooms and a cellar. The original parquet floors, marble fireplaces, murals and stained-glass windows in the great hall, Louis XVI hall, bar and salon lend it a great deal of cachet. Finally, the fantastic winter garden around the 18th-century colonnade and the large, green garden form a surprisingly serene, communal island of tranquillity in the city centre.

owner speaks out

The Hollandse Club, founded in 1879, settled in this special piece of Antwerp heritage in 1964 and expanded it in 2012 with the building behind it. Here we organised dinners, lectures and cultural gatherings. Thanks to our own location, we were never dependent on external facilities, something our members have always been proud of.
