2800 Mechelen

In the 16th century, Krankenstraat was still called Tooverstraatken. When the Krankenhuis was built here, the street name changed as well. What has never changed is the absolute tranquillity of the Groot Begijnhof, right in the heart of beautiful Mechelen.
Including the gate on Hoviusstraat, this corner house has no fewer than three entrances: two on Hoviusstraat and one on Krankenstraat.
Magnificent protected Louis XVI-style round-arched gate from the late 18th century, opening onto a sunny courtyard and the later-built house (late 19th century).
The property consists of two separate buildings, together approximately 350 m², both overlooking the inner courtyard. Both the main house and the rear building are fully to be restored.
Of the two front doors, one opens into the main hallway and the other into a side vestibule with toilet and access to the cellar. On the ground floor: spacious living room with parquet flooring, dining room, kitchen and rear room. The stunning staircase hall contains the original staircase to the first floor, with three bedrooms and a bathroom. On the second floor there are four more rooms.
The house remains entirely authentic, with original colourful cement tiles, Boom tiles in the dry cellar, original interior doors, mouldings, ceilings and beautiful plank floors on the upper levels.
The ground floor of the rear building comprises two rooms. On the first floor there are two more rooms, and on the second floor one additional room. Unique within the beguinage: you can drive into the atmospheric inner courtyard!
