Description

IN OPTION - Head one way down this street and you’ll reach the Vaart. Walk a few streets in the other direction and you’ll find yourself at the Vrijbroekpark. The station and city centre are also close by. Thanks to the lovely neighbours, a fresh, new energy flows through the street – with full respect for its architectural history. Best proof? The Hovenierspark just across the road: a cosy community garden and natural playground, maintained by the locals.

For anyone ready to roll up their sleeves, this home is a wonderful project. With a generous 256 m² of living space, a deep garden and heaps of original features from 1911–1912, the foundations are already in place – it’s up to you to shape the rest to your taste and wishes.

It feels like stepping into a time machine or a film set. The original wooden front door, a hallway with double glass doors, a living room with its authentic ornaments and marble fireplace. Even the dining room and kitchen, with their lovely garden view, take you back in time. Also on the ground floor: a bathroom with toilet and access to the basement, separated by a wall of vintage ripple glass. From here – once the sleeping quarters of the servants – you can also reach the garden, perfect for garden parties or playtime. Even here, the original wooden doors, old tiles and built-in cupboards will have you dreaming of bygone days. Separate toilet.

Both the first and second floors have two bedrooms each, one of which features a mezzanine extending to the roof.

Loads of charm, plenty of space, great garden – check! Could this be your next project?

The owners,

owner speaks out

This unique property has always held a special place in our hearts. It’s full of silent witnesses to a remarkable past, like the ‘room service belletjes’ once used by the servants. Simply wonderful! Major Pierre Brassine, a descendant of a well-known Belgian family, bought this house for his bride, Lady Blanche Andersson. With a little help from the – at the time renowned – Mechelen furniture industry, Lady Blanche transformed the home into a unique English-Mechelen style residence. In 1976, it became part of our family, purchased complete with its original, fully intact interior. We hope the right buyer will lovingly turn this home into a warm, contemporary residence, while honouring its extraordinary history and former inhabitants.
