Description

- IN OPTION- History, an authentic vibe, and a central location right in the heart of the university district – it’s all here. You’ll find this newly renovated residential and pedestrian street close to Hof Van Liere, the green oasis of calm on the university campus. In a straight line, you’re just 300 meters from the Town Hall, 250 meters from Meir, and 300 meters from the MAS.

The typical stepped gable and windows of this historic house from 1562 (!) stand out in this quiet street. Inside, there are even more medieval elements, such as the wooden ceilings, classified crossbeams, and the beautifully crafted spiral staircase. On the ground floor, you’ll find the funky yellow kitchen, dining room, easy-to-maintain tiled floor, separate toilet, and access to the +2-meter-high basement with a concrete floor – perfect for storage. A floor higher, you’ll enter a room with a beautiful wooden floor, a large built-in closet, a bathroom with a bathtub-shower, toilet, and sink. On the cozy east-facing terrace, you can enjoy your first coffee of the day.
On the +2 floor, the same beautiful wooden plank floor and charming wooden beams in the ceiling. This level currently serves as a living room/lounge. On the +3 floor, you’ll find a lovely mansard room with plenty of light thanks to the charming windows. On the mezzanine, accessible by an original sliding staircase, you can sleep or relax under the pitched roof. Handy: there’s a hidden washbasin in the white closet.
For your information: the current owners rented an underground garage nearby.

owner speaks out

This is truly a top location, steeped in both the history of Antwerp and the energy of a vibrant university district. One of our favorite activities was our evening walk. Around half past eight, we would stroll leisurely through the city center, happily watching the mix of people on the street. When it comes to cafés, there’s plenty to choose from here. It’s a neighborhood that’s always in motion, without ever becoming overly crowded.
The centuries-old elements in the house are also fantastic. Over the years, it has served many different living situations: a couple, a young family with two small children, and even as a weekend retreat for our grandchildren. A professor from the nearby University of Antwerp even had his office here for a while, where he could fully utilize the huge bookshelf space.
