Description

Historic mansion in green Castle Avenue, on the Fisherman's side. Ten minutes' walk to the historic centre, close to ring road and motorway (without hearing the traffic!), plus lots of cool cafés all around. Organic vegetables, cheese dairy and bakery in Lousbergmarkt, and soon a Delhaize with wine bar in St.-Annakerk. Also five minutes away: Vlaanderenstraat, with its exotic restaurants.

Between 2010 and 2011, this house was completely renovated and given a bright rear extension with lovely garden views. No expense was spared: marble fireplace mantle, original parquetry, ceiling-high double doors ... Even the magnificent ornaments in gold leaf in the salon were fully restored to their original 1870s state.

Plenty of grandeur in the entrance hall with marble tiled floor and authentic staircase. Kitchen with ceiling-high glazing, Miele appliances, XL island and lots of cupboards. Delightful aperitifs at the kitchen counter, with view of the south garden, then extensive dining in the stylish dining room and pousse-café by the fireplace in the sumptuous lounge.

Basement: now large storage and laundry room. On +1: bathroom and two giga bedrooms, one library with bay window and lovely city views, and one master with spacious roof terrace and mirrored wardrobe wall. At +2: bathroom and again two generous bedrooms. At +3, under the wooden roof truss: stunning duplex studio with kitchen, living room, sun-drenched roof terrace and open mezzanine with bedroom and bathroom.

2 garage boxes nearby, take over rental possible.

A unique mansion with many possibilities for lovers of age-old charm and grandeur.

owner speaks out

'It's not just the prime location that makes us love living here. The landscaped south garden with minimum maintenance and lots of colour variation in the trees is also an absolute bonus. Moreover, we fully enjoy the neighbours' tall trees.

The house is not overlooked, so you are completely private. The original parquet floors and beautiful gold leaf ornaments, fully restored to their original 1870s state, add to the warm, cosy atmosphere. Plenty of light streams in through the many windows everywhere, all rooms have a spacious, open feel and the fireplace in the lounge is also a great bonus. It makes cold winter evenings super cosy.

One of our favourite spots is the library with bay window, where you have a view of the Visserij, Lousbergskaai, Boekentoren and the church of Nieuwen-Bosch. From the mega-sized window in the kitchen, in turn, you can see how the garden changes through the seasons.'
